 Grip and Go

I bought this for my Nikon D3000 based on a co-worker's strong recommendation. I love this thing. I always felt as if I'd drop my camera when shooting, but no more. The battery pack grip gives me peace of mind as I'm running about shooting my son's baseball games and my kids' hijinks at home. It provides a sure and comfortable grip. As I'm new to digital photography, I'm not familiary with the vertical shutter problems other users commented on. For now, it's nice to be able to rotate my camera for a different point of view and have something to hold on to.

The battery life from the single to double batteries is a bit less than double, but with a charge I can shoot for about two weeks at about 50-80 shots a day. Even then, I only recharge because it's been awhile. I did run the batteries low to check longetivity and went for three weeks at 50+ shots a day before I got the low battery indicator.

This was easy to install, once you realize that you open the battery compartment to 45 degrees and gently pull. Plus you store the battery cover in the grip. Great forethought and design.

The only negative thing is the fit. The grip is slightly larger than the camera body and at times seems awkward, but it's normally not noticeable.

 Perfect!

If your looking for extra life battery and a cool look to your camera I really recommend this Opteka Battery Pack Grip! is the best! great quality, awesome performance, battery life is not a problem anymore. well build turnaround time was quick. no complains is a must buy for nikon's d3000!

My Honest Review about this Extra Bulk...

I have the Nikon D5000, so first of all while my review is overall a negative one...I think amazon should emphasis the fact that this is a battery grip for the D60/D40/D40x
Instead of throwing in the D3000, and D5000 for some extra sales, the truth would have help a bit but moving on.

We all have different reasons for wanting a battery grip for our DSLRs.
The purpose of a battery grip for those who arent 100% sure, is to allow you to have the option for extended battery life w/ two battery being available inside the grip, an extension of the DSLR's original body making it bigger (for bigger hands such as my own), and finally for its vertical shutter so you wont have to stretch your hands across the camera for those great vertical shots you've always loved.

My reasons for buying a battery grip were all three above.
However i only got the unless bulk of more surface area on my camera (for my bigger hands), and we'll wait to find out whether my extended battery life actually is extended. What i am not happy with after just installing my battery grip is the fact that not only is the vertical shutter cheap, requiring you to pop open a sensor for its operation, but you also are required to change the settings under your release modes from single shot or continuous shots to a "remote" setting to receive the sensor of the vertical shutter. That is completely Terrible and Unless. And lets not forget the annoying beep that comes from the camera after you have taken a single photo with the vertical shutter button, because you cant shoot continuous photos either with the vertical shutter.

Later did i realize that my DSLR doesnt shoot horizontally in "remote" mode so in order to go back to shooting normally i have to go through the menu and change back the release mode.

So at the end of the day, having learned my lesson about third party products for my nikon camera, my plan is to utilize the extended battery life and the bigger bulk on my camera for my bigger hands. The vertical shutter will definitely not get used as a result of all the effort that is required simply to use it. Now i cant say i completely hate this thing but it definitely was NOT what i expected or intended to buy and i will walk away from amazon/opteka as a bitter customer.

Life goes on with a lesson learned, hope this helped some people!

 Sweeeeet!!!

This thing is awesome!!! Though it is not quite a perfectly flush fit for my D3000, it looks VERY NICE!! Makes my D3000 look all beefed up.

As far as usefulness, the pack works very well. Boosts my battery life to an insane level. With my kit battery, the two that came with this pack, and a couple packs of double a batteries (yeah, thats right, it can take double a batteries too), I do not have to worry about running out of power mid shoot.

As for the complaints about the vertical shutter button needing to have remote release set, this was my fix. I set my Fn button to allow me to switch my shooting mode on the fly. So all I have to do is hold Fn and spin the selector until it hits remote. Done! Finished! Its ready to use the vertical release. (Which has come in handy already).

One last note... The pack added a couple inches to the bottom of my camera, allowing me to hold the camera a bit more naturally and with a bit more surety. The added grip space along with the battery life makes this a MUST BUY!!! Even if you don't need a vertical shutter release. (Though, unlike some of the other reviews say... You may find useful as well... I know I did)

All in all, this was a wise purchase that will definitely pay off.

Though I cant speak for the other Nikon model owners, I can safely say (as a D3000 owner) this thing works awesome and looks pretty darn shnazzy!!

 love it

i have a d3000 and a d5000, and well it is pretty flush with the d3000 and im happy with that. it is not as flush with the d5000, but hey it still works!
